What is a SRES? Seniors Real Estate Specialist

As seniors age, many choose to move or downsize for various reasons.   Some of these reasons may include the desire to be closer to family, live in a more favorable climate, or reduce the cost and responsibilities associated with maintaining a home and yard.  A Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) is a real estate professional who is specifically trained to address the needs and concerns of seniors.  An SRES is not your typical agent who wants to get through the process quickly to a sale.   The SRES agent is aware of the special needs of a senior and will be more patient and compassionate through the process and will not rush the senior into a closing date that may be too stressful.

 

Another important job of an SRES agent is to provide information and help to current, future, and past customers.  They have a network of professionals to be able to let customers know where they can go for needed help in a variety of areas.   SRES agents belong to local organizations involved with senior care/support to gain more insight into their customers and to grow relationships with other professionals who can help seniors with their unique needs.   The constant networking with other senior-focused professionals is a major part of the job of the SRES.   They must keep up to date on all alternatives available to seniors.

 

An SRES agent is also unique in that they develop long term relationships with future customers.   It is best for the customer to meet with the SRES agent even years prior to selling their home in order to get insights into how to prepare for the future event.   The SRES agent will also be knowledgeable in strategies and needs for a customer to stay in their home and to “Age in Place.”   SRES agents have relationships with many professionals who can help ensure the home is safe for the aging senior and/or financial strategies to help make it financially viable for the senior to remain in their home.

The SRES agent also has extensive knowledge of local senior housing options from 55+ Communities to various assisted living communities, the SRES is familiar with many facilities and options to help guide their senior customers to embrace their future.

The SRES can recommend and suggest several professionals in each category of need.   The SRES does not gain in any way financially (or otherwise) from the suggestions, and will not be held responsible if the customers are upset with their choice.   The SRES is in a network of other professionals all willing to help and support the seniors with compassion.
